Graduate Student Financial Support

The Neuroscience Graduate Program provides full financial support to students as long as they maintain satisfactory academic progress. The program covers fees, tuition, and a stipend. The 2008-09 stipend is set at:

1st, 4th year and beyond: $27,000.

2nd and 3rd year: $28,967.50 ($20,772 annual NIH stipend level plus $8,195.50 payroll for 5 months of GSI appointment; Note 1: the higher level of support during the 2nd and 3rd years is set to prevent stipend inequities between different non-competitive funding sources; this policy will apply to each student for a maximum of 2 years as long as graduate students in the cohort receive support from NIH training grants; Note 2: GSI salary levels are set by the UC-Berkeley/UAW Contract each October; therefore the total support level might change; see http://hrweb.berkeley.edu/pay/uawwg.htm for updates)

Training Grants - Most entering students are supported by NIH traineeships during their first three years of study.
