Preeya Khanna, assistant professor of neuroscience and electrical engineering and computer sciences, and Stephan Lammel, associate professor of neuroscience, are the winners of the 2025 Rennie Fund for the Study of Epilepsy. Each will receive a one-year $40,000 award to support an epilepsy-related research project.

Khanna will work towards developing a novel electrical stimulation tool to try to prevent epilepsy after traumatic brain injury, and Lammel will investigate whether a naturally occurring brain chemical called neurotensin could reduce seizures.

The Rennie Fund was created as the result of a bequest from the Mary Elizabeth Rennie Trust and is administered by the Helen Wills Neuroscience Institute (HWNI) at UC Berkeley. Read more from HWNI.
