Fee Remissions
All GSI appointments are 50% appointments that include full fee remission (GSI appointments do not include fee remission for any non-resident tuition). Additional information about fee remissions can be found here
Salary Scales
GSI salaries are based on a step level determined by the number of semesters a student has taught as a GSI at UC Berkeley. Information about GSI step levels and salary scales can be found here.
GSI Salary Scales are posted on the Campus Labor Relations Web Site.
Payment Schedule
GSIs use CalTime, Berkeley’s automated timekeeping system, to record their leave usage. Please review the frequently asked questions for more information. You may also watch a brief video about CalTime for Exempt Employees. For questions not addressed in the FAQ, please email caltime@berkeley.edu
Fall appointments start on August 1st and end on December 31st. Spring appointments start on January 1st and end on May 31st. GSIs are monthly exempt employees and receive a fixed monthly salary for five months. Monthly salaries are paid on the first for the prior month’s effort (see UCB Payroll Office for exact schedule).
Receiving Pay
GSIs can set up direct deposit through UCPath. The initial Direct Deposit set-up may take up to two weeks to become effective. GSIs who do not sign up for this service will receive their pay via paper check. UCPath will forward the GSIs paper check to the mailing address they have on file. Please review UC Path paycheck options for more information.
*Please note that direct deposit reactivation may be necessary if it's been 60 days since previous appointment has ended.*
All employees can review their online earnings statements via UCPath.
